A former Coronation Street star has undergone a dramatic transformation, leaving fans stunned with his latest TV role almost two decades after waving goodbye to Weatherfield.

Dominic Holmes, who once played Daniel Osbourne on the ITV soap, is back on screens in Channel 4’s gripping drama Tip Toe, and viewers can barely believe it’s the same actor.

The star first appeared in Coronation Street during the mid-2000s, taking on the role of Ken Barlow’s youngest son, Daniel. He played the character for two years before departing the soap in 2007, but his latest role couldn’t be more different from his days on the cobbles.

In Tip Toe, Dominic plays Regime, a character who lives a double life as a teacher by day and a drag queen DJ by night. The bold role has showcased a completely different side to the actor’s talents, with many fans doing a double-take after recognising him from his soap days.

For Coronation Street viewers, Daniel Osbourne has a long and complicated history. The character was born following Ken Barlow’s affair with Denise Osbourne in 1994 and spent much of his childhood away from Weatherfield after moving to Scotland with his mum.

As a youngster, Daniel was played by Lewis Harney before disappearing from screens for several years. He eventually returned in the 2000s when Denise reconnected with Ken, with Dominic Holmes stepping into the role.

His stint on the Street lasted until 2007, when Daniel once again left Weatherfield. A decade later, the character returned for good, this time played by Rob Mallard, who has become a firm fan favourite and one of the soap’s central characters.

While Rob is now the Daniel Osbourne we know and love, many longtime Corrie fans still remember Dominic as the first actor to portray the character in his teenage years.

Now, nearly 20 years after leaving the soap, Dominic has found himself at the centre of one of television’s most talked-about dramas.

Tip Toe has earned widespread praise from critics and viewers alike thanks to its powerful storylines and emotional twists. However, despite its success, the drama is coming to an end. The series aired its final episode last night, bringing the story to a close and leaving many viewers emotional ahead of the finale.

Show creator Russell T Davies has already confirmed there are no plans for a second series, explaining that the story was always intended to be a one-off.

He said: ‘This is a one-off.

‘It has a very definite ending. There’s nowhere you could go after the ending. I’m very happy with it. I’ve had a good time doing it.

‘I always have to start from scratch and I sometimes regret that. I’m mad, aren’t I?

‘But equally I like doing one-offs. Soon I’ll start something brand new.

‘It means I can go anywhere and do anything. There are new actors to work with, there are new stories, society keeps changing. I’m excited to move on.’

Executive producer Nicola Shindler also made it clear that the drama was never designed to run beyond a single series.

She explained: ‘It’s a one-off miniseries.

‘It’s a bold show. It goes to dark places. It’s great that we got the chance to do that.

‘Russell thinks he has told the story. There are so many stories out there, so Russell wants to move on.’

Although Tip Toe is reaching its conclusion, Dominic Holmes’ standout performance has certainly caught viewers’ attention. For fans who remember him as the young Daniel Osbourne on Coronation Street, seeing him transformed into Regime has been a reminder of just how far his career has come since leaving the cobbles 19 years ago.
